What really gets on my nerves

Are you worried about how you'll handle the babies?
G should stop traveling, how will you ever manage?
Twins are generally preemies, you should be prepared for it.
Wow, you look big!
Can I rub your belly?
Why don't you stop working ?
Will you continue to work after the babies are born? ... Are you kidding me?
And the worst of them all is something I cannot even get myself to say.

Do people have no brains? No sensitivity? If you don't know what to say, don't please say anything to me. By even means of small talk. I really don't want to hear scary c-section stories or about the umbilical cord or about blood pressure. I know what I need to know, by your telling me these stories you are only making me nervous and not helping me in ANY way.
I don't know you and I don't want you to touch my belly! I don't know how to say no, so why even put me on the spot?
If I will have premature babies, I will, what can I do about it? Whisper to them to grow up fast? To tighten my legs when i move around?
G will do what and when he chooses to do. I am not going to be coming to you for help, so don't ask me when he will stop. We all do what we can.
I will work, if you have a problem with that, shut up and keep it to yourself. If I cannot manage I will quit. There, happy?

Why can't people share happy thoughts? Why is there so much morosity (not a word, but i love it) all around?
I guess this is the reason why people don't share the news of them being pregnant with a lot of people, since they don't know what to say or how to react. But how difficult is it to be nice?
Ok, done venting!
I am 8 months along now...cannot believe there is such little time left. So much still left to do!!! Ok, so I'll get to that, TTYL. :D

  1. Unsolicited advice is an Indian trait...or is it universal? For the longest time random people would ask me about the M (read marriage) thing...now its the B (baby) thing. Guess it doesn't stop - does it...!?! Irksome to say the least!

  2. reminds me of my rant post before and after babs...

we just have to take it with a grain of salt...at the end of it...all of them do think that they are wishing the best for you...as annoying as it is...

plus we are high on hormones when we are prego. Everything used to piss me off! :)

Meanwhile...have a great pregnancy and we are all eagerly looking fwd to feast our eyes on the twin jewels.

  3. @ arshi, it's universal, there is no escape! I wish people would MTOB, esp. those who have never had babies and somehow still think they are qualified to give advice!

  5. People suck, dont let them steal your thunder. Tactfulness is rare and I see it in fewer and fewer people everyday. Being nice/considerate/tactful/classy is like a dying "art", and it is actually very simple. You simply do not say something that would sound hurtful if you were in the other person's shoes.

You need to be a little more upfront/direct and curt with such people. They need to know when to backoff. Start with:
"We will cross the bridge when we come to it. Shoot me an email if you have any expert advice about handling twins with a fulltime job and a traveling hubby, seeing that you have such keen interest and experience in such scenarios. Until then, we will be doing just fine. K-Thx-Bye"

Ok, sure tone it down a bit, since you are so nice. If you can learn how to do this subtly(and I am not saying I can do it everytime either, I just get a lot of practice, so I keep honing my "warding off" skills), you will win the battle against tactless dimwits.
