Being busy

I have begun to notice how a number of us always have the same answer to the question 'How are you?' Ubiquitous answer : 'BUSY'. Or answers with the word busy in it.

Why are we all so busy? Or are we really busy? Do we like it? Do we surround ourselves with so much to do and then complain that we are busy?

I think lately, the trend is to be busy. I have noticed it in my extended family and in my friends. The moment you ask them what is going on, the first thing that pops out of their mouth is 'Busy
' . And when they say it there is a glee in their eyes. And when I tell them I am fine and life is good, they are surprised by my reaction. As if expecting a completely different answer.
Some of my family members will come up and to me and ask me 'Aur kaisa chal raha hai, busy busy'? And I am very perplexed, because I am not busy really. I have a job, which maybe gets demanding sometimes, but I usually don't carry the work home. I make good use of the 8 hours I am at work. When I come home, my time is for my family and friends and the things I want to do. Cooking is a fun thing, it does not make me busy. Having kids and playing with them, bathing them, feeding them, doesn't make me busy. Having a husband and spending time with him doesn't make me busy. Exercising is a choice, it again doesn't make me busy. We love to watch movies, we make time to do. We love to go out, we make time to do it. We love our friends and family and we will make time to do it. None of these activities make us busy.
I don't understand the people who say they are always busy or have 'chores' to finish. Why is it that your life is so complicated.

  1. Less happy people are busy, I find. Everyone fills their time with something, and if you're not happy, you won't like what you're doing, even if it is in itself a pleasant pursuit. Cooking is a bothersome chore or a relaxing pastime depending on your mindset. I find that I'm busy as well. Busy having fun!

  2. I hear you and I might be one of those who use the word 'busy' a lot.

I do so to explain why I have not been able to spend time with people.

I would not know how else to explain that. As much as I enjoying working/spending time with family my life right now is such that I do not have much time for much else. At the end of the day when I am exhausted and sit down for TV. I call that being busy. And the sad part is I dont find that bad at all...I think I like being busy. A busy day, a busy weekend makes life more interesting.

But I agree...a lot of people just use busy as an excuse.

  3. Hmm, well being busy having fun is a completely different thing. See, the point I was trying to make is, I have my hands completely full and I am more happy than I've been. But when I see people who's goal in life seems to just appear busy and not make time for people in their lives then it seems a bit weird. How does 6 months sound? And despite all that is going on with me, I always make it a point to ping the people I care for and make time for them.
And when someone comes to me asking me 'you must be busy' my immediate thought is 'no, why should i be?'.

  4. I think sometimes, we drift apart for no reason. Work/family/new lifestyle and we use the word Busy as an excuse.

I let it be because I have done similar things to others. The only thing I do is I make sure that I do not worry about it because I still have the past where we had good times together and blog about it :)
